The Conservation Hut (perfect place to talk a lot and eat nice food)

The Speedread…

  • Great place to stop after a scenic bushwalk in the Blue Mountains National Park
  • Friendly, attentive service with gorgeous views of the valley
  • Reservations not required

The Need-to-knows…

  • Must try: BLT: Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato with Aioli on toasted Turkish
  • Address: Fletcher Street, Wentworth Falls

After finishing a 30 minute ‘easy-grade’ bushwalk and feeling rather famished (a sure sign of pure unfitness), the group decided to grab a bite to eat at The Conservation Hut, a long time favourite for tourists and locals alike both for its location and relaxed atmosphere (not to mention the general servings of food…you will definitely not leave this place hungry!)

The perfect view

.. a perfect setting for lunch if you feel like being one with nature (note that in summer this may also involve sharing your lunch with a copious amount of flies)

A view from the inside:

- the space in the roof lets in natural light which further adds to the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant.

Fresh Fettuccini with Bolognese (also available with Puttanesca (anchovy optional) or basil pesto $25.90

Al-dente, however Bolognese could have been a bit stronger (along with the Parmesan which was definitely not freshly grated)

House-made pie with peas, mash and tomato relish $25.90

The success of the dish seemed to overly depend on the tomato relish. Had a real home-made taste. The mash was good however only when mixed with the peas.

BLT: Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato with Aioli on toasted Turkish with a side of garden salad $18

The Bacon was perfectly salted, the bread was not overly buttered and the Rocket was a perfect complement to the overall light lunch.

Shoestring fries with Aioli $8.45

Shoestring fries, a personal favourite and The Conservation Hut never fails to disappoint with this simple side order. The Aioli is a perfect complement to the fries, which is always fried in freshly-turned oil.

After gorging on food, I decided that before my impending visit to the gym, I might as well finish the calorie count, and perusing the menu my attention was caught by the offering of Serendipity ice-cream: Fig, Honey and Pistachio. The honey came as a punch to the palette and was the perfect ending to a nice meal.
